Call for proposals: Knowledge, struggles and transformations in Latin America
We are delighted to invite proposals to the inaugural Conference on Social Science and Humanities Perspectives on Latin America at the Australian National University. The event will be held on Friday May 20, 2022, with support from the Australian National Centre for Latin American Studies (ANCLAS) and the ANU Latin American Student Association (LASA).
The conference aims to discuss the main problems facing Latin America, such as the region’s challenges in terms of governance, economics, public health, social programs, and citizen participation, among other topics. At the same time, the issues discussed at the conference can provide a strong impetus for new interdisciplinary efforts and critical cultural studies to seek lasting solutions and new research directions in Latin American studies.
We invite all research students and faculty from the social sciences researching Latin America to participate in this conference. We hope that the event will attract sociologists, historians, political scientists, as well as all those who, in their academic work, are concerned with social progress in the Latin American region in its broadest sense.
We invite you to present your proposals in the following thematic sections, broadly conceived:
1. Social, cultural and artistic analysis
2. Human rights and social movements
3. Socio-environmental challenges
The working language of the conference will be English. Proposals of 300 words and a short bio (100 words max) should be sent to Diana Tung Diana.Tung@anu.edu.au> and Miguel Lattz Miguel.lattzlara@anu.edu.au. There will be no registration fee.
